(Atlantic) Dante Hedrington scored two running touchdowns, and Zaydin Parker connected with Colton Rasmussen for another as Atlantic blanked Perry 21-0 in a Class 3A District football game at Atlantic.
The Trojans rolled up 299 yards of total offense, 207 yards on the ground, and 92 yards in the air. Sophomore fullback Gavin McLaren rushed for 98 yards on 15 carries, and tailback Dante Hedrington carried the ball 20 times for 91 yards. Sophomore quarterback Zayden Parker completed 7 of 16 passes for all 92 yards in the air. Defensively, Colton Becker led the Trojans with eight tackles.
Atlantic held the Bluejays under 100 yards of total offense, 29 passing, and 60 yards rushing. Geren Kinney went 7-for-25 passing for 29 yards. Kinney led the team in rushing with nine carries for 40 yards.
Dante Hedringon got away on a 15-touchdown run with 43 seconds left in the first quarter. Haydin Thompson kicked the extra point to give Atlantic a 7-0 lead. Hedrington answered the bell again with 7:57 left in the half on a three-yard score, and following the extra point, the Trojans led 14-0 at the break.
Both defenses stood their ground in a scoreless third quarter, but the Trojans cracked the scoring column again with 8:45 left in the final stanza on Parker’s 15-yard TD strike to Rasmussen.
The Trojans move their record to 2-1 in district play, 3-4 overall, and travel to Harlan next Friday night. Perry falls to 1-6, 0-3 in district play—the Bluejays square off against Knoxville on Friday.
