(Athens, OH) – The Cyclones (1-2) fall to Ohio (3-1) for the first time in school history 10-7. With a series that started in 1962, the Cyclones were a perfect 8-0 until yesterday.
Ohio’s win was their first over a Power Five school since 2017. The Bobcats have now won eight straight games at home and limited their turnovers by having no turnovers in the entire contest, the first time for Ohio since November 2022.
Starting with the stats for Ohio, the Bobcats were led in the passing game by Kurtis Rourke as he passed for 135 yards and threw for one touchdown. Ohio relied on Rourke to rush the ball as well as he led in rushing yards with 60 followed by Sieh Bangura with 44 yards, and O’Shaan Allison with 36 yards. Sam Wiglusz was the primary target for the Bobcats with 53 yards receiving and five receptions on the afternoon. Jacoby Jones also helped in the receiving game with two receptions for 42 yards followed by Tyler Walton with four receptions for 35 yards. Kwame Sutton has one sack in the game while also totaling four tackles. Ohio will take on Bowling Green in their next competition on September 23rd.
Looking into the Cyclones, they were led in passing by Rocco Becht as he passed for 233 yards and one touchdown. While those stats look promising, he also threw for two interceptions and was sacked once in the game. However, he was also the primary rusher for Iowa State with 32 rushing yards followed by Cartevious Norton with 23 rushing yards off nine carries. The Cyclones attempted to rely on the receiving game of both Daniel Jackson and Aidan Bittner as Jackson had three receptions for 65 yards while Bitter had 52 yards off two receptions. The Cyclones had no sacks or interceptions in the game but were led in tackling by Ben Nikkel with eight tackles and one tackle for loss.
Iowa State will return to action against Oklahoma State in Big XII action next Saturday, September 23rd.
