(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW started off their season on a strong foot, beating the Tri-Center Trojans 64-27. The rushing game was more than impactful in week one as the Vikings set the tone for the season. Camden Soukup and Luke Sternberg combined for five touchdowns and rushed for over 300 yards in the Viking win. Coach GG Harris is looking for Soukup and Sternberg to feed off one another and become more comfortable on the field.
The defense had an impressive game against Tri-Center, especially Nick Denning. The senior had 12.5 tackles in the game and earned an interception that he rushed back for a touchdown. Kaden Baxter also made his name well-known on the defensive end with 10 total tackles.
Looking ahead, Riverside is a very balanced team on the offensive end. Jaxon Gordon led the Bulldogs in rushing with 227 rushing yards and had two rushing touchdowns. Riverside quarterback Grady Jeppesen passed 15-18 in the game with three touchdowns for 167 yards. The Vikings will go in for a balanced attack and make things uncomfortable for the Bulldogs.
Coach Harris is looking for his players to set the tone in week two. They are looking to get three straight wins over the Bulldogs and have a chance to do so under the lights.
AHSTW will travel to Riverside to take on the Bulldogs tonight at 7:00 p.m. KSOM will be live at Riverside with a pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. with Zach Collins and Austin West on the call.
