(Atlantic) Claire Pellett belted a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Atlantic an 11-1 win over Harlan in a Hawkeye Ten Conference Softball game at Atlantic on Thursday night.
Riley Wood picked up the win in the circle, allowing one run on three hits, striking out one, and walking one.
Atlantic’s lead-off batter Ava Rush beat out an infield single and scored on Zoey Kirchhoff’s sacrifice fly to put the home team up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Harlan answered with one run in the top of the second on Ellie Ineson’s single. Ineson scampered home on a ground ball to tie the game at 1-1.
After that, Wood retired eight straight Harlan batters. The Trojans provided Wood with run support. The home team scored one run in the second, three in the third, and five runs in the fourth, and ended the contest with Pelletts RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Claire Schroder drove home the run in the second, and Lila Wiederstein and Zoey Kirchhoff drove home two of the three runs in the third. Pellett drilled a double in the fourth, and Makenna Schroeder and Maddie Huddleson drove in two runs to give the Trojans a comfortable 10-1 cushion. Then Pellett cracked the game-winning single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Pellett led the Trojans at the plate with a double and the walk-off RBI single. Claire Schroder laced an RBI double, McKenna Schroeder smacked a 2 RBI single, Maddie Huddleson belted a 2 RBI single, Zoey Kirchhoff drilled an RBI single, and Ava Rush and Riley Wood singled for the Trojans.
Ellie Ineson had two singles, and Jenna Gessert accounted for the third hit for Harlan Community.
Atlantic Travels to West Marshall on Friday. Harlan travels to Shenandoah on Monday.
