(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning received a report on the Hungry Canyons Alliance Program.
John Thomas said Hungry Canyons Alliance was formed in the early 90’s to address the problem of stream bed degradation in a 23 county area.
In addition, the area has steep slopes, high drainage density – which means there are a lot of rivers per square mile, and a lot of road crossings.
As part of that cost share, county governments provide a minimum of 20% match for each structure.
Cass County has 66 Hungry Canyons and Emergency Watershed Protection weir structures throughout the county. A couple of the most recent projects were done on the West Nodaway and on Turkey Creek.
