(Area) Strong thunderstorms rolled through the area on Monday evening and into the morning hours on Tuesday, bringing high winds, heavy rain, and flooding of creeks and streams.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for all of southwest Iowa over the evening hours on Monday. Another round of storms early Tuesday morning carried wind gusts up to 73 miles per hour near Shelby.
The National Weather Service is reporting a 60-mile-per-hour wind gust eight miles southwest of Sidney, and a 62-mile-per-hour wind gust three miles northeast of Essex. Another report of a 62-mile-per-hour wind gust was made two miles southwest of Shenandoah. Additionally, trees and power lines were reportedly down in different areas of Clarinda.
More rain is forecast this week.
