(Southwest Iowa) A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. today for southwestern Dallas, northwestern Madison, northern Adair, northern Cass, southern Audubon and southern Guthrie counties.
The National Weather Service says thunderstorms were producing heavy rain across the warned area early this morning. Between one and four inches of rain have fallen since Monday evening, with up to another inch possible.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, with flooding possible along small creeks and streams, highways, streets, underpasses, urban areas and other low-lying locations.
The warning includes Atlantic, Stuart, Earlham, Anita, Exira, Redfield, Adair, Dexter, Casey, Menlo, Linden, Brayton, Marne and Wiota, along with Lake Anita State Park and the Atlantic Municipal Airport.
The warning also includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 50 and 106.
Motorists are reminded to turn around if they encounter flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
