(Creston) The Creston boys’ basketball team defended their home court with a 79-75 overtime win over Atlantic on Friday night.
Four players scored in double-figures for the Panthers. Cael Turner led the way with 18 points, Kyle Strider, 17, Logan Anson, and Patrick Varner each scored 15. The home team connected on seven three-point shots.
Carter Pellett led Atlantic with 31 points, Caden Andersen, 12, and Jayden Proehl and Jackson McLaren finished with ten points each. Atlantic Head Coach Derek Hall….
The Trojans led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter. McLaren and Pellett led the way with five points each. Logan Anson came off the bench and hit two three-point shots to keep Creston close.
The Trojans picked up the pace in the second quarter, outscoring the Panther 21-15. Caden Andersen came off the bench, attacked the rim with six second-quarter points, and Jayden Proehl knocked down a three-point basket. Atlantic led 39-31 at the break.
Atlantic held Creston’s leading scorer Kyle Strider to four points in the first half. Strider broke loose in the third quarter, splashed in a big three-point basket, added two field goals and one free throw, and the Panthers outscored the Trojans 20-11 and grabbed a 51-50 lead at the end of three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Carter Pellett dominated the paint, scored 10 of the team’s 13 fourth-quarter points, held the Panthers to 12, and sent the game into overtime.
Creston sank the first basket in the extra period and never trailed, outscoring the visitors 16-12.
Creston goes to 2-1 on the season and plays Shenandoah on Tuesday. Atlantic falls to 1-3 and hosts Kuemper on Tuesday night.
