(Atlantic) The Atlantic Community School District is pleased to welcome Heidi Hennen as its new School Business Official.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnson says Mrs. Hennen brings extensive experience in school finance, human resources, payroll, budgeting, and business operations. She has more than 10 years of experience in human resources and payroll, along with nearly four years of school business leadership experience.
Most recently, Mrs. Hennen served as a Business Services Finance Specialist with the Southwest West Central Service Cooperative, where she provided business manager-level services to three school districts. In that role, she assisted districts with budgeting, account coding, restricted funds, accounting procedures, financial reporting, audit preparation, and state and federal compliance requirements.
Previously, Hennen served as Director of Business Services and Chief Financial Officer for the Meeker and Wright Special Education Cooperative. Her responsibilities included overseeing financial operations and the business office team, developing and managing the cooperative’s budget, preparing for annual audits, monitoring cash flow, completing state reporting, and communicating the financial impact of decisions to member school districts.
Heidi Hennen also served in several human resources and payroll leadership positions with the Meeker and Wright Special Education Cooperative, the Redwood Area School District, and Redwood County. Her experience includes employee onboarding, benefits administration, payroll processing, personnel records, employment contracts, regulatory compliance, and financial reconciliation.
She holds an Associate of Arts degree from Nebraska Christian College and has completed specialized training in human resources and school business management. Hennen received her Minnesota Association of School Business Officials Institute credential in 2022 and earned MASBO certification in 2024. She is proficient in the Skyward and SMART school accounting systems, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.
As part of her transition to the School Business Official role in Iowa, Hennen will complete the Iowa Association of School Business Officials courses and training required for Iowa school business officials.
Hennen and her husband, along with their three children, are currently looking for housing in the Atlantic community as they prepare to relocate closer to family.
The Atlantic Community School District is excited to have Hennen join its team. It looks forward to the financial knowledge, leadership experience, and commitment to responsible stewardship she will bring to the District. Her broad background in school finance, human resources, and business operations will support the District’s continued focus on serving students, staff, and the Atlantic community.
