(Des Moines) The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for elevated fire danger this afternoon.
High temperatures across central and southern Iowa are expected to range from the mid 60s to lower 70s this afternoon, with dewpoint temperatures falling into the upper 20s and 30s. This will lead to relative humidity dropping to less than 35 percent. Winds will gradually shift to the north and northwest by afternoon with a few gusts over 20 mph.
Several grass fires have been reported over the past few days. Thus, the mild, dry, and locally breezy conditions may cause fires to spread quickly if ignited again today.
