(Harlan) The Harlan girl’s cross country team on Saturday defended their home course with the team title. The Cyclones scored 51-points, Glenwood finished second with 62, Clarinda was 3rd, 72, and Atlantic finished fourth with 118-points in the 14-team field.
Two freshmen led the field of 93 runners. Harlan freshman Lindsey Sonderman won the individual title in a time of (19.21), and Denison freshman Lola Mendlik crossed the line in second place in a time of (19:56.46). Atlantic junior Ava Rush ran third in (20:05.12).
Harlan placed two runners in the top ten, and all five scoring runners finished in the top twenty. Sonderman finished; first, Kia Bieker, fourth, Ellie Gross, 13th, Taylor Bieker, 16th, and Jenna Gessert was 17th.
Madeline Berglund led Glenwood with a 7th place finish, Rachel Mullennax, 10th, Riley Wiese, 11th, Breckyn Petersen, 14th, and Lauren Hughes, 20th.
For Clarinda, Mayson Hartley was 6th, Ashlyn Eberly, 12th, Callie King, 18th, Cheyenne Sunderman, 29th, and Amelia Heese, 34th.
Rush led Atlantic with a third-place finish, Claire Pellett, 5th, Belle Berg, 25th, Faith Altman, 39th, and Aspen Niklasen was 50th.
