(Des Moines, IA) Iowa gasoline prices increased 23 cents over the past week, with the statewide average for regular unleaded reaching $4.34 per gallon, according to AAA’s weekly fuel report released Wednesday, September 23.
The current average is $1.42 higher than it was a year ago. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline is $4.74 per gallon, up 38 cents from last week.
Iowa diesel prices also increased, rising 16 cents to an average of $6.28 per gallon. A year ago, diesel averaged $3.51 in Iowa. The current statewide average is 24 cents below the national average of $6.52.
Crude oil prices declined this week. West Texas Intermediate crude fell $11.37 per barrel to $92.64, while Brent crude dropped $4.89 to $102.73 per barrel. One year ago, West Texas Intermediate crude was $63.76 per barrel, and Brent crude was $67.96.
Natural gas prices rose by 5 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site, reaching $3.00 per million British thermal units.
The report also lists current Des Moines Terminal/Rack prices at $3.33 per gallon for U87-E10, $4.29 for Unleaded 87 clear, $5.11 for ULSD No. 2, $5.38 for ULSD No. 1, and $2.71 for E-70.
Iowa retail heating oil and propane prices will resume reporting in October.
