(Iowa City, IA) — Friday was Media Day for the University of Iowa football team as Head Coach Kirk Ferentz took questions for about a half hour. There is no news on who the starting quarterback will be — Hank Brown or Jeremy Hecklinski. Ferentz did not say if one guy has the lead over the other, he says he is not in a hurry to declare a starter
Brown and Hecklinski were statistically a dead heat during spring practice so it could be a tough decision for Ferentz and his coaches so other intangibles will become a factor
Ferentz says the two positions he has the most confidence in right now is Running Back and Tight End. Senior Addison Ostrenga is back from his injury and ready to push last year’s breakout starter DJ Vonnahme from Kuemper Catholic who Ferentz says has become a big time player but success has not gone to his head
Ferentz says there are other Tight Ends as well such as Sophomore Thomas Meyer from Clear Lake
Iowa opens their season on Saturday, September 5 hosting Northern Illinois
