(Des Moines, IA) — Drought conditions continue in portions of northwest and west-central Iowa. The new National Drought Monitor Map shows a new area of severe drought in Ida and Sac Counties.
Northwest Pottawattamie, Harrison, Shelby, Audubon, Carroll, and Crawford Counties remain in the D1 Drought category.
Sixty-three percent of Iowa is drought-free this week.
Cass and Adair Counties have upgraded from D1 Drought to just abnormally dry; however, the recent heavy rainfall in these areas could show even more improvement in next week’s drought monitor.
The new drought map doesn’t reflect any of the heavy rain that fell on Wednesday or Thursday.
