(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Supervisors talked about improved space and security at the District Court. Judge Tom Murphy says the general security of the courthouse needs to be improved to discourage any potential problems and protect the staff
That was supervisor Maggie Armstrong — the bay window is used by everybody including people who are upset about being sued or questions about jury duty. Murphy says there are a lot of people who come to the courthouse
Supervisor Steve Smith would like to look into installing a metal detector at the courthouse but costs prevented that in the past especially since it would need to be manned by someone in the Sheriff’s department. Murphy says the law has changed about allowing weapons in the courthouse
The Supervisors did not make any final decisions at the meeting but have agreed to look into options to improve security at the District Court.
Elsewhere, the Supervisors passed Resolution 26-39 authorizing early redemption of general obligation of county building improvements and Resolution 26-40 authorizing a one time transfer of funds from the Guthrie County General Basic Fund to the Guthrie County Conservation Reserve Fund.
The Supervisors also appointed the following members to the Vicious Animal Commission: Guthrie County Sheriff Matt Harmon, Ryan Steffensen of Helena and Darin Sloss, the Guthrie Center Street Superintendent.
