(Atlantic) Rod Deter of the Atlantic Cemetery Association gave an update to the Atlantic City Council on Wednesday evening. Deter reported that the association used $45,000 of perpetual funds to remove 34 dead trees from the cemetery. He thanked the city and county for their help hauling out the trees.
The cemetery showed a $2,000 profit before depreciation but a $2,000 loss after depreciation. Meanwhile, Deter mentioned the Cemetery Association is offering a tree campaign.
Rod Deter also mentioned that a company is considering the cemetery as one of six potential sites for a cellphone tower. The lease would pay the landowner $900 per month for ten years, with automatic renewals up to 16 times.
City Councilman Dana Halder raised a concern about the tower’s height near the hospital, which could affect medical helicopters.
Butler noted that the city provides $30,000 in supplemental funds to the Cemetery Association, and Mayor Rob Clausen added that any opportunity for enhanced income is worth considering.
