North Polk School Board Member Faces Assault Charge
(Polk County, IA) — A North Polk School Board member is facing an assault charge in Winterset. Ashley Delaney was taken to the Winterset Police Department after being charged on Friday, May 1. Delaney is listed as a director on the North Polk Board of Education’s website. Authorities have not released details about what led to the charge. The North Polk School District says it is aware of a law-enforcement investigation and has been in communication with the Winterset Community School District, but cannot release further comment.

A new report from the National Education Association shows Iowa has the 21st-lowest average teacher salary among all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The data shows Iowa teachers made just over 68-thousand dollars on average during the 2024-2025 school year — an increase of about three-thousand dollars from the year before. Teachers in California and Washington made the most last school year, with Florida and Mississippi teachers ranked at the bottom.
USA Triathlon Nationals Coming To Iowa In 2027, 2028
(Des Moines, IA) — Des Moines will host the USA Triathalon Nationals for the first time next year, and again in 2028. Trina Flack, President and CEO of Catch Des Moines, says the event will bring about 34-hundred athletes to the region, along with spectators. She says the three-day event will have the feel of a festival. The competition will be held at Grays Lake on August 6th-8th in 2027 and August 4th-6th the following year.
RAGBRAI Riders Can Mark America’s 250th With Historic Day 5
(Marshalltown, IA ) — RAGBRAI is marking the nation’s 250th birthday with a historic challenge for riders. The 83-mile route from Marshalltown to Independence will have two optional loops. The traditional Century Loop adds 21 miles, pushing the day past 100. But the boldest riders can take on a second loop, bringing the total to nearly 160 miles. That’s 250 kilometers in honor of the country’s 250th celebration. It will be the longest single-day ride in RAGBRAI’s 50+ year history.
