Susan Eades Lamb, daughter of Frederick and Mary Jane Abbott (Eades) was born April 18, 1953, in Niagara Falls, New York where she spent the first 10 years of her life. During those years, she was blessed to spend time with her grandmother, who gave loving attention to her spiritual and emotional needs. As a child, Susan loved to play the piano, starting lessons at age six.
Upon the divorce of her parents, Susan’s mother remarried, and the family relocated to Los Angeles, California, in 1963. The move proved very challenging for Susan, putting her in an uncomfortable and unsafe family situation. Susan was baptized at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Alhambra, California, in 1964.
Susan graduated from Charter Oak High School in Covina, California, in 1971. Following graduation, Susan worked part-time and attended Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, California. At that time, she met George F. Stahl. They married on November 11, 1974.
Susan worked as a supervisor in the community hospital. A son, Brandon, was born in 1976. Her husband George was killed in an automobile accident in 1978. Susan raised Brandon as a single parent, working at General Telephone as a purchasing agent.
Susan and Brandon were blessed to become members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ontario, California, where Brandon attended the lutheran elementary school of the parish. The message of the Gospel brought new life and healing to Susan. Her heart opened up to God’s love for her in Christ, and she began to heal from the memories and wounds of a challenging childhood.
In 1993, a leap of faith and a random “finger on the map” led Susan and Brandon to Carroll. They connected with St. Paul Lutheran Church, where Susan taught Christian education classes and sang in the choir.
In 1994, Susan met Don Lamb. They married on August 5th, 1995, at First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Don and Susan lived in Carroll for 2 years, then relocated to Manning in 1998. Susan blessed numerous students with the gift of music, teaching lessons for 18 years. Her love of music continued after the formal lessons and piano, and other music could always be heard in the home.
Other hobbies included gardening, flowers, and always enjoying her golden retrievers. Susan and Don loved to travel, visiting many areas of the country, and especially many years of winters in Florida.
Susan and Don joined Zion Lutheran Church Manning where she shared her music gifts playing the piano, and taught herself how to play the pipe organ.
Susan is survived by her husband Don of Manning; son Brandon (Erin) Stahl and granddaughter Avery of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; stepdaughters, Laura Anne (Cory) Cvrk of Sioux City, and Heather (Nathan)Wenck of Templeton; brothers, Lucas (Misty) Abbott of Perryville, Missouri, and Michael (Christine) Abbott of Budd Lake, New Jersey; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Eades, her father, Frederick Abbott, by maternal grandparents, William and Edna Eades, and paternal grandparents, Stanley Abbott and Bea Abbott.
