Jack Ellis Tye, was born on April 1, 1938, to Vernon and Myrtle (Doty) Tye on a farm northwest of Griswold, the eighth child of ten. He passed away early morning August 20, 2024, at the Corning Specialty Care in Corning.
He went to Griswold High School and graduated in 1957. He started farming at the age of 19. After his father passed away, he farmed for himself and as a hired hand for neighbors.
On January 14, 1962, Jack and Donna Forsyth were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Griswold. To this union, three children were born, Karen, who died in infancy, Jeffrey and Jacqueline. They lived on the Tye family farm until 1994, when they moved to Griswold. He continued working with Lester Leighton, Bryce Leighton, and Cold Springs Park in Lewis.
Jack was a member of Central Church of Christ in Griswold. He liked woodworking, farming, fishing with his paddleboat, and gardening. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and other old westerns. He loved his family and had a good sense of humor with a lot of sarcasm.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter Karen; his in-laws Ernest and Cleta Forsyth; his siblings: Gyle, Hohn, Marlowe, Jay, Elgie, LaVerne, Gloria and a baby brother in infancy; his brothers-in-law Dean and Keith Forsyth.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna of Griswold, IA; his son Jeffrey of McCool Junction, NE, his daughter Jacquline and husband Dennis Jones of Greenfield, IA; his sister Suzanne Horter of Greenfield, IA; his grandchildren: Andrew Tye and his wife Amber of Corning, Joshua Tye and wife Emmaleigh of Omaha, NE, Amber Tye of Omaha, NE, Richard Jones of Greenfield, IA, Mitch Tye of York, NE, Ashley and husband Andy Masmar of Atlantic IA; his 6 great grandchildren; his sister in-law Carol Forsyth of Red Oak, IA. Jack is also survived by his dog Duchess; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, on Friday, August 23 at 2:30 PM, with the visitation one hour prior at 1:30 PM. The interment will be at Whipple Cemetery, NW of Griswold. A memorial is currently being established. The Rieken Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
