(Bondurant) Bondurant-Farrar’s quick start and solid pitching leads to a 10-0 win in five innings over Atlantic in a Class 3A Substate quarterfinal at Bondurant on Friday.
Will Pottebaum picked up the win for the Bluejays, allowing no runs on two hits, three strikeouts, and no walks. The Trojans used three pitchers in the contest. Jack Muller started the game, and Hudson McLaren and Gavin McLaren pitched in relief. The Blue Jays scored ten runs on five hits.
Pottawbaum held Atlantic to a pair of hits. Hudson McLaren drilled a one-out single in the top of the first inning, and Sawyer Tarrell accounted for the other hit at the top of the fourth inning. The Trojans scattered a few sharp line drives. Unfortunately, they were hit right at Blue Jay defenders.
The Blue Jays got off to a good start with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of two hit batters and two walks. Peltz led the charge with a two-RBI single.
Bondurant-Farrar plated four more runs in the fourth inning on four hits. Ehlers hit a two-RBI single, Pottebaum belted a two-RBI double, Aidan McDonald singled and drove home two runs, and Peltz hit a single to push the score to 9-0.
The game ended at the bottom of the fifth inning when a pitch hit Fenton Smith, who stole second, advanced to third, and scored on a passed ball.
This season, the Trojans fielded a young squad led by one senior, Jaice Larson. Atlantic Head Coach Nathan Block praised Larson for his leadership throughout the season.
Block noted that 22 of the 23 varsity players return next season.
Meanwhile, The Blue Jays (23-8) move on to the Substate 8 semifinals against (22-12 Lewis Central on Monday night at Bondurant.
