(Des Moines, IA) — For the last 12 years, Jeff Kaufmann has been the key figure in Iowa Republican politics. His boisterous speeches as the Chairman of the Iowa GOP has generated a tremendous following in his party and has captured the attention across the nation including President Donald Trump who asked Kaufmann to officially nominate him as President of the United States at the 2024 Convention.
In this mid term election, Kaufmann may have one of his biggest challenges — he does not have an incumbent in the Iowa’s governor race for the first time as Chair. Zach Lahn won a tight race in the primary with an upset over Congressman Randy Feenstra and three other challengers. The upcoming Congressional elections in Iowa will be tighter than ever — traditionally the party in the White House does not fair well in midterms but Kaufmann is confident in the Republican candidates. There are new ones in District One (Joe Mitchell) and District Four (Chris McGowan) but the races in District 2 (Mariannette Miller-Meeks) and District 3 (Zach Nunn) will be close says Kaufmann
Kaufmann does not know how much longer he will serve as the Chair of the Iowa GOP but one primary goal for him is to keep the Iowa caucus first in the nation
Kaufmann also talked about Iowa’s Republican party leadership with the retirement of Senator Joni Ernst and Governor Kim Reynolds. Kaufmann says both will be active and he says particularly Reynolds who he says will be on the campaign trail for Lahn.
