(Iowa City) The Iowa Board of Regents has created a three-member committee to oversee the University of Iowa’s Center for Intellectual Freedom.
The committee will meet at least once every quarter and oversee the center’s budget, programs and future plans. It will also help search for a permanent director after classes offered through the center were paused because of low enrollment.
The center is expected to play a role in new civics education requirements beginning in 2028. University of Iowa undergraduates will be required to complete two three-credit-hour civics courses before graduating.
The same course requirements will also apply to undergraduate students at Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa.
