(Atlantic) The #15 Atlantic Softball team heads into Saturday’s Regional semi-final at Clarinda riding a nine-game winning streak. The Trojans came out aggressive at the plate, scoring nine runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first inning, notching four runs in the second, defeating Red Oak 13-0 in three innings at Atlantic on Thursday.
Riley Wood picked up the win in the circle for the Trojans. The senior pitched two innings, allowing no runs on no hits, and walked one batter. Peyton McLaren came in in the third inning in relief, and retired the Tiger batters in order.
Atlantic sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning. Makenna Schroeder hit a triple and a single. Claire Pellett hit a laser to deep left field for an RBI Triple, and Riley Wood belted a three-bagger for the Trojans. Jillian Saathoff blasted a two-RBI single, Claire Schroder hit a single and drove in a run, and Lila Wiederstein hit her 73rd base hit of the season, keeping her rein with the most hits in Class 3A.
The Trojans put the finishing touches on the short outing with four more runs in the top of the second. Sonntag, Schroder, and Schroeder had RBIs, to lead the charge for Atlantic.
The Trojans travel to Clarinda on Saturday for a Regional Semifinal. The broadcast will be on 95.7 F.M. The pregame show starts at 6:30.
