(Adair Co) The Adair County Board of Supervisors received some guidance today from Ahlers & Cooney regarding a Commercial & Industrial Development Ordinance.
Last month, the Supervisors approved an Attorney Engagement Agreement with Ahlers & Cooney P.C. for Commercial and Industrial Development Regulations. Adair County has a comprehensive plan that was created around 1998. Maria Brownell, with Ahlers & Cooney, said a great first step would be to update that plan.
The county had been working on an ordinance creating setbacks for Commercial & Industrial Development and Brownell noted that the county would have no way to enforce that without a zoning code.
Brownell suggested the Board have a work session or meeting to decide what they would like to change, or not change, in the existing plan. Then, touch base with a planner to help with reaching the county’s goals from an ordinance/codification standpoint. The ordinance process itself would take the three readings it normally would with the caveat that if the county is adopting any zoning ordinances they have to appoint a Planning and Zoning Commission first.
Supervisor Matt Wedemeyer said it would be best to review the Comprehensive Plan and then reach out to SICOG (Southern Iowa Council of Governments) to see what their schedule is like so they can start doing some planning sessions.
In other news, Adair County Auditor Mandy Berg said their Post Election Audit went really well. The audit was held the day after the Election.
The Supervisors approved a motion to accept the post election audit.
The Supervisors also approved a contract with Adams County to have Adair County Engineer Nick Kauffman fill in as Interim Engineer. Kauffman said Adams County will reimburse Adair County for expenses.
