(Denison) Iowa State Patrol Trooper and District #4 Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy says they are emphasizing safety during this Easter Holiday weekend because of the increased travel on the roadways.
According to the latest traffic fatality report released on Wednesday. Fifty-one people have died in traffic-related accidents to date in 2024. That is down from 66 one year ago. The 51 fatalities are lower than the 59 recorded in 2022 and seven higher than in 2021.
To date, there have been six motorcycle fatalities, one bicycle, five pedestrian, and three ATV/UTV crashes. The 51 traffic deaths include 19 on urban roadways and 32 on rural roads.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 18 people died while wearing a seatbelt, 18 people were killed without a seatbelt, and two were unknown.
