(Council Bluffs, IA) – With a new program comes a new coach as Iowa Western has named Mykenzie Liston as the Head Coach for the men’s and women’s swimming program at Iowa Western. Swimming was just announced on February 19th and they hired Liston just two weeks afterwards on March 7th.
Liston was a former swimmer at Lewis Central, breaking multiple records with the Titans which led her to sign a D-I scholarship with the Houston Cougars. She won multiple relay titles as a part of the swim team and NCAA Academic All-American swimming honors. The new Iowa Western coach qualified for two events for the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2021 in Omaha while a member of the Cougar’s swimming team.
While gaining experience as a collegiate athlete, she also had experience as a coach with the USA Midwestern club team and as the head coach at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. “We knew that we needed someone with the experience and knowledge of what it takes to compete, and we definitely found that coach with Mykenzie Liston,” said IWCC President Dr. Dan Kinney. “Mykenzie has a solid reputation both regionally and nationally and we are confident she will hit the ground running to make Reiver swimming a success.”
Liston said in a statement, “I am excited to be a part of a supportive and winning environment that exists at Iowa Western,” she said. “Starting a new program is a challenge I am looking forward to taking on.” Mykenzie currently resides with her husband in Council Bluffs.
