(Des Moines, IA) – The Iowa high school track and field season has officially begun, which means that the Drake Relays are coming up shortly. Drake’s official Blue Standards for the 114th Drake Relays have been announced. These are the standards that qualify a high schooler to participate in the meet but athletes can still be entered outside the marks to be considered for the Relays.
The Blue Standards were created back in 2018 to assist coaches and families in planning their season. Coaches will still be required to enter the athlete or athletes in the event via Bound before the morning of April 19th. Entries open for high schools on Monday, March 4th and run through the end date on April 19th. The lists will then be published on Saturday, April 20th.
In 2023 there were a total of 237 Iowa high schools who competed in 17 events. These events have become more challenging for 14 of the 17 boys events and 12 of the 17 girls events. The athletes who earn the Blue Standard mark can post to social media @DrakeRelays and use the hashtag #BlueOvalAttitude.
All the new and updated standards are listed below.
