(Lincoln, NE) – The Iowa Hawkeyes kicked a game-winning field goal to beat Nebraska 13-10 in Lincoln. The field goal was made by Marshall Meeder, the former kicker for Central Michigan who kicked his first field goal for the Hawkeyes and couldn’t have been done without Ethan Hurkett’s interception. The field goal was the third time since 2018 that Iowa has won a game against the Huskers on a game-winning field goal.
Looking into the stats of the competition, Iowa’s offense went back to their old ways after having an impressive week offensively last week against Illinois. Deacon Hill went 11-28 in the game for 94 yards and also earned a rushing touchdown for Iowa. His favorite target was Steven Stilianos as he led Iowa with two receptions for 38 yards for his career-long receiving touchdown. Running back Leshon Williams picked up 111 yards on just 16 carries in the game. His 22-yard run was on the final drive of the game to set up the Hawkeyes for the walk-off field goal.
Defensively, Iowa was led by Ethan Hurkett who led the team with nine tackles and an interception, the first ever in his career. Big Ten honoree Jay Higgins had eight tackles while Nick Jackson earned four tackles and a sack. He now has 140 tackles this season as he is tied for seventh in program history with Dave Clement. Iowa allowed just 264 yards which marks the 26th consecutive game that they allowed under 400 yards. The Hawkeyes did not give up a point on an opening drive all season long.
With the win, Nebraska’s lead in the series is now 30-21-3 as Iowa now leads the series 9-4 since 2011. The Hawkeyes will be back in action on December 2nd when they take on the winner between Michigan and Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game. The kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
