(Thurman) A South Dakota man faces burglary and weapons charges in Fremont County.
Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope says 38-year old Jonathon Lee Getz of Yankton, South Dakota, is charged with two counts of Burglary 2nd degree, a Class C Felony, 1st-degree theft from a disaster-affected building, a Class C felony, motor vehicle theft, 2nd degree, a Class D Felony, Possession of a short-barrell rifle, a Class D Felony, and Possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class D Felony.
Fremont County Deputies responded to a call on Friday morning of a man trespassing at a previously flooded farm near Thurman. The man fled the scene before arriving deputies. Deputies later located the vehicle at another previously flooded property in the 1500 block Western Avenue. Deputies uncovered evidence that Getz engaged in a burglary and attempted theft at that location. Deputies also discovered the vehicle was reported stolen out of Kansas. K9 Roby located a firearm near the concealed structure.
Deputies transported Getz to the Fremont County Jail without bond, pending an appearance in front of a Magistrate Judge. More charges are pending.
