(Atlantic) Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett is working on naming a new Atlantic Police Chief.
On February 2, Police Chief Dave Erickson announced his intention to retire from law enforcement effective March 31, 2022.
Mayor Garrett says the hiring process started right after Chief Erickson’s announcement. “This is an important position for our town and we take it seriously,” said Garrett. “Therefore we want to make sure we’re prepared for this position.”
Garrett says the selected candidate will be one she feels works well with and for Atlantic. “It’s important that our departments work together,” Garrett said. “It’s a testimony to others we truly want to work well for the City.”
Mayor Garrett says the Police Chief carries a significant responsibility for the safety of the community and keeping abreast of different events and situations that could and or may affect the citizens of the city. Additionally, Garrett favors furthering the candidate’s education in law enforcement to enhance their development of expertise.
Mayor Garrett will announce the new Chief of Police within the next couple of weeks.
