(Des Moines) Rod Donavon, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says the high-pressure ridge causing the hot and dry weather in the country’s midsection over the past several weeks may finally be breaking up.
“We’re looking fairly dry at least through Wednesday, ” said Donavon. “It will be quite warm until we get into a more active weather pattern later on in the week.”
Donavon says after that, temperatures are expected to cool off, bringing with it an increased chance for rain. “The high-pressure ridge is breaking down and a frontal boundary with some cooler air is moving into the area late in the week,” said Donavon. “We do have thunderstorm chances starting Wednesday night into early next week.”
The high temperatures are forecast to cool off to the mid-to-upper ’80s later on this week.
