(Atlantic) An Atlantic man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a reported dispute involving a firearm Tuesday afternoon at a residence on West 11th Street in Atlantic.
The Atlantic Police Department says at approximately 12:37 p.m. on Tuesday, the Cass County Communications Center received a third-party report of a dispute that had occurred at 206 W. 11th Street in Atlantic with information indicating that a firearm may have been discharged. Officers with the Atlantic Police Department responded to the scene and, during the initial investigation, made contact with a vehicle traveling in the area that had been identified by a witness as potentially being involved in the incident.
During that contact, the driver, 28-year-old Resty Helson, of Atlantic, was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – First Offense (Serious Misdemeanor) and Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor). As the investigation continued, the Atlantic Police Department executed multiple search warrants and ultimately recovered two firearms that had been concealed behind a residence. As a result of the ongoing investigation, Helson has also been charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (Class C Felony), Going Armed with Intent (Class D Felony), Reckless Use of a Firearm – Property Damage (Aggravated Misdemeanor), and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (Simple Misdemeanor).
