(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of southwest, west central, and central Iowa through Friday afternoon. This includes the counties of Crawford, Carroll, Audubon, Guthrie, Adair, Cass, Adams, and Union.
Several rounds of rain have occurred this week, with more rain to come from this morning through Friday morning. Storms this morning and again tonight into Friday morning have the potential to repeat over the same area, leading to rain that accumulates quickly, as well as high rain rates of one to two inches per hour.
At the KSOM/KS95 studios in downtown Atlantic, we have received 3.6 inches of rainfall.
Excessive runoff from heavy rains may cause flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying, flood-prone areas.
Flooding may occur in areas with poor drainage and in urban areas.
