(Harlan) A Manilla man faces numerous charges following a single-vehicle accident near Irwin on Thursday.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway M47, one-mile north of Irwin. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle in the ditch.
The investigation led to the arrest of 33-year-old Tyler Douglas Schechinger of Manilla for operating while intoxicated (2nd offense) and possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence. Schechinger was also cited for failure to maintain control and open container as a driver.
Authorities transported Schechinger to the Shelby County Jail, where he was held until later that morning and released on bond.
In a separate incident, 24-year-old Merari Eduviges Perez of Manilla was taken into custody following a traffic stop along the 1300th block of Highway 59 for a speeding violation. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Perez’s driving privileges had been revoked through the State of Iowa. Perez was placed under arrest for driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor), speeding, and citing for no insurance. Perez was transported to the jail without incident and held on bond and later released by a magistrate.
