Russell Howard Finnell, the son of Stanley and Grace (Bozwell) Finnell, was born December 8, 1957, in Creston, IA. He died January 24, 2020, at his home in Walnut, IA, at the age of 62 years, 1 month, and 16 days.
Russell attended school in Atlantic until his junior year. His family then moved to Griswold, and Russell graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1976. After graduating, Russell attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, where he received an Associates of Applied Science in Auto Mechanics. On November 11, 1989, Russell was united in marriage to Kristen Shafer in Harlan, IA. Russell worked in the auto parts industry for most of his career in Harlan and the surrounding communities.
Russell enjoyed working on cars, doing word searches, watching T.V., and doing yard work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Richard.
He is survived by his wife Kristy of Walnut, IA; his children, Shantel Finnegan and husband Ben of Norwalk, IA, and his son Andrew Finnell of Walnut, IA; his grandchildren, Troy and Skylynn of Norwalk, IA; his siblings: Mary Garside of Anita, IA, Ronald Finnell of Texas, Donald Finnell of Linden, IA, and Stanley Finnell of Cozad, NE; his mother-in-law Betty Shafer of Grant, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 11:00 AM, at the Weirich Cemetery, south of Lyman. Visitation with the family will be at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Thursday, morning from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. The funeral procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home at approximately 10:40 AM. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
