(Area) — Thunderstorms rolled through eastern Nebraska and western Iowa on Sunday. The storms left 8,000 residents around the Omaha area without power, mainly in the South Omaha area.
There was a reported tornado that touched down near Plattsmouth, NE and another one in Glenwood, IA about 11 miles southeast of Offutt Air Force Base, around 9 p.m. No damage has been reported. Tornado warnings were issued in Montgomery, Pottawattamie, and Mills Counties but were allowed to expire at 9:45 pm and no further tornado warnings were issued as the storm moved east.
There was also a tornado in St. Libory in central Nebraska that did significant damage — there was one home that was swept clean and two other homes suffered major damage. No injuries were reported.
There was damage from a tornado that hit near Salix, IA with reported trees down that blocked access into the town. According to KSCJ in Sioux City, a tornado was confirmed near Kingsley and another funnel was reported northeast of Sioux City near Remsen. Several farm buildings have been reported destroyed. There are over 7,000 customers of MidAmerican Energy that do not have power.
