(Atlantic) Due to the recent vandalism in the City Park restrooms, the Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department will be installing cameras.
Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Bryant Rasmussen told the Park Board Monday night that the vandalism has been a huge issue over the past week. The first vandalism occurred the weekend of August 7-9 at the bathrooms in Sunnyside Park.
Rasmussen said the water-less bathroom at Schildberg Recreation Area was also destroyed.
Another vandalism occurred this past weekend (August 14-16).
The only two restrooms that were not vandalized were at City Park and the Bathhouse at Schildberg Recreation Area.
Rasmussen said they were working with NishnaNet to get wifi up so they can install a camera system, but that has been put on hold. For now, they have ordered four trail-cameras and two were donated to be placed in the City Parks. Rasmussen said if the vandalism continues they will need to address another option. For now, the restrooms have been reopened except for the water-less bathroom and the bathrooms at the tennis courts.
Travis Garrett, speaking as a citizen, disc golfer and former Parks and Recreation Director, said there happened to be a disc golf tournament going on around the time the vandalism occurred.
Garrett reminds people if you see something going on in the parks, make sure you say something.
