(Anita) CAM topped Glidden-Ralston 15-0 in a four inning baseball game that aired Wednesday on KSOM. The Cougars move to 5-0 on the season and are in the driver’s seat for a Rolling Valley Conference championship.
Lane Spieker struck out eight and retired the final 12 batters in a row that he faced. Grant Borkowski was hit by a 3-2 pitch to lead off the first inning, but that was the only Wildcat baserunner all night. Spieker relied heavily on an overpowering fastball.
Colby Rich delivered the loudest of CAM’s five hits. The sophomore uncorked a two run homer in the 1st inning. It was his second longball of the year. Kolby Nelsen added a triple while Jacob Holste and Cade Ticknor each had RBI singles. Connor McKee poked a base hit into right field. CAM walked twice in a three run first inning. CAM earned a total of 18 base on balls on the night. Consecutive bases loaded walks by Mason Chester, Lane Spieker, and Walker Gettler ended the game early via the 15-run rule.
Four of CAM’s five wins have been by 11 runs or more. This was their third shutout and they’ve allowed only two total runs all year. On Monday they cleared a big hurdle in the conference race with a 2-1 win at Coon Rapids-Bayard. After taking on Ar-We-Va on Friday, they have a big matchup with fellow league unbeaten Boyer Valley on Monday.
