(Iowa Capital Dispatch) Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) will host more than 60 farmer-led field day events across the Midwest from June to November, showcasing farms of all sizes, production practices and first-hand insights from farmers.
The field days, set to take place in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Nebraska, will discuss a wide range of topics, including water quality, cover crops, restoration of prairie habitats for pollinators and growing peaches in the Midwest.
“PFI field days give attendees a first hand look at how others are approaching things like improving soil health, diversifying their operations, cutting input costs and building profitable businesses,” Liz Kolbe, farmer-led education director of PFI, said in a press release.
According to PFI, the goal of the organization’s field days is to bring all farmers together through “shared experiences, practical demonstrations and open conversation.”
“No matter your interests, there’s probably a field day that fits,” Kolbe said. “Because these events are hosted by farmers on their own farms, attendees get the chance to see practices in action and have candid conversations about what’s working and what isn’t.”
All field days are free and open to the public, and PFI encourages non-farmers interested in agriculture, local food systems or conservation to attend. The events will take place regardless of weather conditions.
A full list of field day events, rules and logistics can be found on the PFI website.
