(Elk Horn) After an 0-2 start to the season the Exira-EHK boys basketball team has responded to win two of their last three outings. Creighton Nelson has been a major part of that and he’s our featured senior for the week beginning December 16th.
Nelson is one of only a few players returning with varsity experience for the Spartans and has been on a scoring tear this season. A career high 33 points came in a 61-44 win over Paton-Churdan last week and also hauled in 14 rebounds. He followed it up with 15 points in a loss to Woodbine on Friday. Saturday in a win against IKM-Manning Nelson posted 28 points. A 21 point, 16 rebound performance came in the team’s season opener against Glidden-Ralston. He scored 16 in a loss to Coon Rapids-Bayard. He’s averaging 22.6 points per game on the season.
Nelson’s basketball exploits follow a terrific football season. He broke out on the gridiron as well. This past fall he led the Spartan’s in several statistical categories including rushing yards, receptions, offensive touchdowns, tackles, return yardage, and interceptions. He made 20 trips to the end zone and rushed for 869 yards.
