(Des Moines) Cyber scams cost Iowans $ 26 million last year. Heather Kriener of the Iowa Department of Insurance says one ploy involves tech support pop-ups that tell consumers their computers are infected with viruses.
Kriener says Iowans should do a hard shutdown to reset their computers. She also suggests looking up phone numbers yourself to expose scammers who pose as someone from your bank, tech support, or an investment firm.
