(Oakland, IA) — As Riverside prepares for their first round volleyball playoff game this Wednesday, Senior Sydney Somers recently announced her intention to play the sport at Wayne St. in Nebraska.
The Warriors are just over a 2 hour drive northwest of Oakland and play Division II volleyball in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Somers says when she first expressed interest in the school, the coaching staff did not think they had a place for her. However, after watching her play, they quickly changed their minds
Somers is good in other sports like basketball and softball but she said volleyball has always been her favorite. She says she is excited, nervous, and a relief to make the final decision
Wayne St. won 24 games last season — they are 11-10 right now and Head Coach Tim Koth is in his 13th season this year. Somers does not know where she will fit just yet
In the meantime, Riverside has finished their regular season at 36-0 and start the playoffs on Wednesday. Somers is 2nd on the team in kills with 263, Senior Lilli Reed leads with 298 and Junior Vivian Gross has 203 kills. Somers says the offense is clicking
Somers says she will major in either business or marketing at Wayne St. — the Bulldogs will host the winner of tonight’s game between West Central Valley and Interstate 35 in the Regional Quarterfinals on Wednesday, coverage on KSOM.
