(Anita) Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate spoke to the CAM Jr./Sr. High School students Friday morning about youth civic involvement and congratulated the school on receiving the Carrie Chapman Catt Award last year.
Schools that achieve a voter registration rate of at least 90% among eligible seniors earn the prestigious award.
The award is named after renowned Iowan and women’s suffrage leader Carrie Chapman Catt.
Secretary Pate told students that young people are the leaders of tomorrow and encouraged them to make sure their voices are heard in government.
Iowa allows 17-year-olds to register to vote as long as they are at least 18 years old at the time of the general election in which they are voting.
