(Oakland, IA) — AC/GC will visit Riverside tonight with the Class A, District 7 title at stake; coverage on KSOM and Western Iowa Today TV.
The Chargers lost a district game last week to AHSTW but a win over the Bulldogs would put both teams tied for first place and head-to-head would be the tiebreaker. Head Coach William Shull says they came out flat last week in a 20-14 loss to the Vikings and the offense could never get on track
The defense has stayed on track and Shull has used a rotation on the defensive line
Whoever is playing defense will have to find a way to stuff the holes and bring down Riverside’s Mason Houser — the Super Sophomore has 134 carries for 1,236 yards and 19 TD
Shull says they have had some things go wrong in their running game and will need everything to fire on all cylinders to win a 4th district title in a row
Riverside is coming off a bye week — they lost to St. Albert two weeks ago. Houser is becoming much like Jaxon Gordon before him — carrying the load. However, he is nowhere near the carries that Gordon had last year — Gordon averaged 28.5 carries in 9 games while Houser currently is averaging 19.1 in 7 games. Head Coach Tyler Johannsen says Houser is ready to take on whatever they give him
Riverside runs a three man front on the defensive line and Johannsen says each one of them has contributed in a huge way
Johannsen says each guy on the D Line will have to mind their gaps
Johannsen says this is going to be a physical football game
