(Des Moines) The price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa rose seven cents over the past week and is now averaging $4.30 per gallon, according to AAA’s weekly fuel report.
The Iowa average is up $1.51 from a year ago. The national average Wednesday was $4.37, down six cents from last week.
Diesel prices in Iowa moved in the opposite direction, falling nine cents to an average of $6.04 per gallon. That is $2.60 higher than a year ago, but 26 cents below the current national average of $6.30.
Crude oil prices also declined this week. West Texas Intermediate fell $2.47 to $88.93 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped $2.92 to $100.81.
Heating fuel prices remain higher than a year ago. Iowa propane is averaging $1.59 per gallon, compared to $1.57 a year ago, while home heating oil averages $5.64 per gallon, nearly double last year’s $2.88 average.
Natural gas prices increased 20 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently at $3.21 per million BTUs.
