(Shelby County) Shelby County Sheriff Neil Gross discussed farmers’ concerns about operating heavy equipment on muddy roads and field entrances during Tuesday’s Shelby County Supervisors meeting.
Gross said the county would not issue citations for gravel or dirt roads farmers tear up while conducting harvest-related operations. However, he asked farmers to be mindful of road conditions and use their best judgment when operating heavy equipment on gravel and dirt roads and at field entrances.
County Engineer Chris Fredericksen also asked the public to notify his office of any road, bridge, or culvert conditions that seem out of the norm.
No department heads reported, and supervisors reported having few committee meetings since the previous board meeting.
Auditor Taryn Knapp presented a tax abatement request from County Assessor Tony Buman for a tornado-destroyed grain bin. The bin had been reported to the assessor’s office but remained on the tax roll.
Supervisor Schaben moved to approve a tax abatement for parcel 831121302902 for taxes owing for assessment year 2025, including any penalties. Supervisor Kolbe seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
