(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors approved funding for park infrastructure improvements at Tuesday’s meeting.
Conservation Director Jeff Franco spoke about the need to replace the pedestrian bridge at Arrowhead Park.
The next project is the Hitchcock Nature Center overlook deck.
Franco asked the board for ‘not to exceed’ costs for both projects.
Franco also said Conservation has a number of needs, including infrastructure upgrades, potential land acquisitions and building improvements. He said that after working with staff and previous directors over the last few years, they have identified between $50 million and $60 million in needs.
Franco asked the board for two-thirds of the funding, with Pottawattamie County Conservation committing to do its best to raise the remaining third.
Supervisor Brian Shea stated he was in favor.
The Supervisors approved funding not to exceed $800,000. That includes $300,000 for the Arrowhead Park bridge, $300,000 for the Hitchcock Nature Center overlook deck and $200,000 for contracted development assistance.
