(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW will try to win their first conference volleyball match as they host Tri Center tonight; coverage on KSOM 96.5 FM and Western Iowa Today TV.
The Lady Vikes are 0-6 in the Western Iowa Conference — they played some close sets against 9th ranked Red Oak last week losing 6-25, 22-25, and 20-25. First year Head Coach Josie Jacobson believes their record does not tell the whole story
Jacobson says their defense is their strength with Kennedy Wyman leading in digs with 217 but AHSTW has some blockers led by Bella Lamp with 35, Macey Goshorn has 33, Maeleigh Rold also has 33 and Addy Carroll has 27 blocks
Carroll leads in kills with 160 and Wyman has 127.
Tri Center is in a three way tie for third place in the conference at 4-2 — Tess Casey leads in kills with 245 and Teri Leaders has 160. Jozie Payne has been responsible for getting them the ball and she has done that with 535 assists which is 2nd in the conference and tied for 31st in the state. Head Coach Taylor Smith says she is working with Payne to make sure she finds the hottest hitter at all times
Payne is also a good server at 97.4 percent with 13 aces — her sister Zohie is the Libero with 266 digs and Casey has 190 and Casey leads with 33 aces.
The Trojans have four players in double figures in blocks and Smith says they will have to be efficient in that area tonight
Overall, AHSTW is 9-18; Tri Center is 15-11. First serve at 7:30 pm tonight, coverage on KSOM and Western Iowa Today TV.
