(Adams Co.) The Adams County Auditor’s Office is warning residents about a recent mailer regarding voter registration that has prompted numerous calls to the county.
The mailer is titled, “VOTER RECORDS SHOW INACTIVE ABSENTEE STATUS.” However, the Auditor’s Office says the mailing was not sent by Adams County or the County Auditor’s Office. It was sent by a third-party organization, American Policy Project Inc.
County officials say the phrase “inactive absentee status” does not mean a person’s voter registration is inactive, canceled or compromised. Instead, it means the voter has not requested an absentee ballot for the upcoming 2026 General Election.
Residents who plan to vote in person on Election Day do not need to respond to the mailer and can discard it.
Those who want to vote by absentee ballot can obtain an official absentee ballot request form through the Iowa Secretary of State’s website or by contacting the Adams County Auditor’s Office. Official absentee ballot requests must be received by the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m. October 19.
Anyone with questions about their voter registration status can contact the Adams County Auditor’s Office at 641-322-3340 or check their status online at voterready.iowa.gov.
