(Des Moines) Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says more than $405,000 in state funding will support water quality projects around six public lakes, including two in southwest Iowa.
The Adams County Soil and Water Conservation District will receive $91,350 for conservation work in the Lake Icaria watershed.
The Adair County Soil and Water Conservation District will receive funding through two projects totaling more than $192,000 for the Three Mile Lake and Twelve Mile Lake watersheds, in partnership with Union County.
The funding will help farmers and landowners install conservation practices, including terraces, grassed waterways, sediment control basins and cover crops. These projects are designed to reduce soil erosion and keep nutrients and sediment out of Iowa’s lakes.
